about

# stealing in the night

stealing in the night is tempting me
like fruit on the vine snaking round and round my mind
some people like to smash windows
to get their point across
while my teenage poetry
hangs like an albatross
stealing in the night

you're asleep in bed while im staying up to read again
im exploring nineteenth century dancing in my head
she was standing on that platform waiting there to die
such a shame i never got the chance to know the real
anna karenina
i know i didn't say that right and i never will
stealing in the night

Imagining the scene: a fancy ball, our wedding rings has it been so long since it wasn’t such an unimaginable thing
while half the world is rioting the rest avoid the plague
no wonder why I feel contrived in trying to revive stealing in the night
oh how I want that feel
to steal the night

# moonflowers

the sweetest-scented flowers bloom at night
when all is quiet and there's room to breathe the air
just like our love grows in the moonlight hour
attracting stranger pollinators in brilliant color

the sun never ceases to produce my shadow
but oh these days my feelings feel so shallow
and so i wander til the moon is rising
to open up my heart

perhaps it was the roses on your dress
or blackest hair brushed against my shoulder
that led me to take refuge in the dark
i saw two moonflowers glowing in the night

# montmartre

rolling down the hills of montmartre
raindrops dripping like errant paint
coloring the world outstretched in front of us
overflowing on your rubber boots
mist forming to foment an afterlife
which looks like these past few weeks
where memory's the only place to go
what future? nobody knows

but i'm thinking, and my thoughts
they battle it out in the ring
who could be so naive to believe
we were never so close to death
i can see the present tense
and it's finally stopped scaring the shit out of me
i can breathe, i can feel
and it's moments like these when i can heal

swimming in an ocean of blue thoughts
try to keep my head from these heavy rocks
dizzy from the heat rays shooting down
my claws clinging to an eroding shore
what's another year, what are you waiting for?
you think its gonna be much better when you're not bored?
seasons pass, nothing changes, the eternal return
our future? nobody knows

if i only knew when this world would stop
the sea of red and burning up
i would build a house with a thousand rooms
each one for the different shades of you
ruby red and purple amethyst
golden amber and sapphire blue
even if the world is ending soon
i pray the tide turns
you are my moon

# the tapes

my lonely heart
casts its gaze upon the mirror glaze
of glowing embers, amber city light
spreading round the ripples
in the river water

i think i remember
a time before we sheltered
making theater in the streets
the scenery was painted with our smiles
but i know my mind plays on tricks on me
and memories a funny thing

so while the world is burning bright
i play the tapes again
revisiting my memories
vacation brain on vhs

my history's a mountaintop
i'm the dedicated guide
no stone unturned or path not found
got nothing left to hide

# a train trip across europe

well its been a month
we were supposed to be married now
and reveling in the wake of our honeymoon
but instead we're stuck inside with no place to hide
quality time, together forever
almost what we had in mind

i wanted to see the world with you
from the steeples of gothic cathedrals
i know there's much more to life than
sitting endlessly on this couch
cobblestone roads and quaint cafes
i want us to have these memories one day

i hear the ghostly echoes of
a train trip across europe
the years gone past when we were young
its not like we didn't have any fun
we made the best of it
but i wonder what could've been

now i know why i waited so long
just couldn't bring myself to finish these songs
while i know there's no sense in reminiscence
it's finally time to mourn the time that was taken from us
